Charcuterie Dinner at the Rose

Hi, it’s Victoria at Mornington Rose, and I’d like to tell you about a delicious charcuterie dinner I can prepare for you during your stay with us.
We started doing dinners here a year or so ago when a couple of our guests travelled to Stratford from quite a distance away. They were so tired from driving all day. No one in the group wanted to find their coats, put on their shoes, and get back in the car to drive downtown to find a restaurant for dinner.
As I had all the fixings in the kitchen, I offered to make them a charcuterie dinner here, served in our dining room.
They liked the idea, since they just had to toddle up the stairs to their comfy beds after enjoying some wine with their meal.
The idea kind of blossomed and grew from there. Since that day, I have included a few extra items to the menu I had made for them. Dinner now consists of a home-made chilled or hot soup to start, the charcuterie main course, a decadent dessert, and tea or coffee if requested.
Each charcuterie dinner is different, depending on your preferences. I make sure I speak to you directly to make sure you have any food intolerances that I should be aware of.
I generally offer a chunky gazpacho, a creamy asparagus, or other chilled soup in the summer. A hot French onion or mushroom soup,or a roasted squash, garlic, and sweet potato soup can be enjoyed in the winter.
The charcuterie board itself consists of a selection of meats cured by our local butchers, and a variety of creamy cheeses produced by one of our local cheese shops. This is accompanied by crispy biscuits and crackers, and bread warm from the oven. Olives, pickles, mustards and home-made chutney, and fresh and dried fruit and nuts are also added, plus a taste of chocolate, of course.
Since I make my own goat cheese and fresh mozzarella, you will also find one or the other of those on the Board, as well as a few surprises.
Our charcuterie boards are made by Murray, in his workshop here at Mornington Rose.
He has always been interested in woodworking and makes pens, bowls and other small items on his lathe.
It was a natural progression for him to make the boards for our dinners. He uses lots of different types of wood such as black lamba, canarywood, spalted maple, walnut, and some live-edged as well. All of his charcuterie boards are food safe.
Here are a few of the boards he has made.
The charcuterie boards come in many sizes, and he is coming up with many new designs. Some are undercut so they are easy to carry and move from one place to another, some have handles cut into the wood, and some have metal handles attached. If you’d like to purchase the board your dinner was served on you can take it home with you after dinner.
We’ve had many positive comments about the charcuterie dinner we serve, and we're glad they have been enjoyed by so many people. Quite a few of our guests order one for the day they arrive, so they don’t have to go out again once they arrive at Mornington Rose. Some like to order for later in their stay and enjoy their charcuterie dinner with friends in a quiet setting, just 20 or so steps away from their rooms.
They can be made for an intimate dinner for two, or for a group of up to 8 people. We can serve you on the veranda or in the dining room.
