Murray and I, Victoria, opened the Mornington Rose Bed and Breakfast as our retirement project. Now, fourteen years later, we are still excited to meet great people and interesting guests, and are still having lots of fun!!
Murray, previously a Human Resources and Labour Relations Professional, is an excellent baker, who makes a variety of scones, bread, and cookies from scratch for guests to enjoy. In his spare time he makes wood, acrylic and gemstone pens and other small turned items on his lathe in his workshop. There are a few examples of his creations in our tiny Gift Shop on the main floor and can also be seen on his website, Sanderson Pens and Turnings.
I am a former Elementary School Teacher who is now chef de cuisine. Using local meats, produce, and vegetables and herbs from the kitchen garden on-site, I make an interesting and varied gourmet breakfast each day for our guests. When not preparing breakfast dishes in my oven in the kitchen, I melt and fuse glass using my torch, and in my kilns in my studio across the parking lot. I create unique serving pieces and home decor, wall, window, and garden art, and beautiful glass jewelry. Make sure to ask to see them during your stay with us or you can go to Torrie S Designs on the web!
We have four cats: Spike, Calli, Gus, and Shadow. They live with us in our private part of the house, and are not allowed in guest quarters. You will often see them relaxing or snoozing on the veranda, or guarding the goldfish in the pond in the garden. They do not allow other pets.
Built in 1905, our home, The Mornington Rose Bed and Breakfast, has undergone many changes in the last hundred odd years. A labour of love for Murray and I, it is once again restored to its former beauty. Our house now shines with comfort, character, and elegance. Classic taste and inviting furnishings blend with a bright, airy atmosphere to create a fresh, but still traditional look to welcome guests.
Murray and I enjoy the challenges of running our own business. We have incorporated our flair for innovative cuisine and artistic endeavours to provide an exciting and memorable Bed and Breakfast experience for our guests.
We have both successfully passed the BASICS.fst Food Safety Training in Canada Certification Exam, so you can be sure that the food we serve you is prepared with the utmost care and diligence.
